Lasting Power of Attorney News
The Office of the Public Guardian has announced that from the 1st October 2009, the format of Lasting Powers of Attorney will change.
Following criticism from solicitors and other legal professionals that the old forms were too long and complex, the Office of the Public Guardian have re-designed the forms so they are shorter, simpler and more straightforward.
The process of creating and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney remains unchanged, and all existing Lasting Powers of Attorney will still be valid. It is simply the forms themselves that will change, making them easier to understand.
It is hoped that the newly designed forms will mean that more people decide to make a Lasting Power of Attorney, appointing a trusted person to deal with assets in the event that mental capacity is lost.
